The Middleborough Water Department operates and maintains the Town’s water supply. Providing for the health and well being of the public. The primary responsibility is to provide a potable, reliable supply of water for residential and commercial users and to provide adequate fire protection for the Town.

System

The water system consists of 130 miles of water main, 800 fire hydrants, 2 water storage tanks and 11 ground water sources. The public water supply was initiated in 1885 and the existing infrastructure varies in age.

Distribution

The water distribution staff, who are licensed by the state, responds to resident inquires of system problems such as:

  • Condensation
  • Discolored Water
  • Leaks in the Roadway and Service Leaks
  • Low Water Pressure

Additional duties include:

  • Dig Safe Mark Outs
  • Hydrant Flushing Program
  • Leak Detection
  • Licensed Cross Connection Survey and Testing
  • Meter Reading
  • Meter Repair and Replacements

Treatment

The water treatment staff, who are licensed operators by the state, are responsible for overseeing all the maintenance associated with the well sites. The wells are monitored 365 days a year. The staff samples water at the well sites and throughout the town to ensure water quality is within acceptable standards determined by the Department of Environmental Protection and Environmental Protection Agency.
